What we think

What Wendy thinks...

La Colline is a modern house with a traditional feel, set in a lovely large garden with stunning views over the Cevennes. Just a few minutes drive from Anduze with its numerous restaurants and shops, this house is perfectly situated for both relaxing and for exploring!

"We had a great time at the house thank you. It was wonderful to have a such a child friendly house, with all the toys, with the table tennis and with the pool being so safe with the gate and alarm. Your book collection was frustrating as unfortunately the children didn't allow us much time to get through any of them!!" August 2009

The house overlooks well tended gardens, complete with an orchard and forest which lend themselves to older children's adventures; there will be no time for boredom in this spacious garden! There are hiding places for parents too, with the lovely covered terrace which is perfect for al fresco dining, and a more formal area of the gardens. There is also a hammock in the orchard where you can quietly slip away for an afternoon with your favourite book. The pool is fenced and will be a real favourite with children of all ages.

"My family and I (two young boys age 2 and 8 months) were fortunate to spend Christmas 2009 at La Colline. As parents craving a relaxing retreat, we were delighted with the level of facilities provided for catering for small children, and the boxes (and boxes!) of toys and games to keep them entertained, even before they discover the play area at the bottom of the garden!  The house is warm (fantastic open log fire) and welcoming, making us feel at home almost instantly. We had a lovely time at Le Sabatier and it feels like the sort of place we could come back to time and again. Our sincere thanks to David and Caroline for a wonderful way to see in 2010!" Christmas 2009

Inside

The main part of the house is all on one floor. The bright and well equipped kitchen opens onto the covered dining terrace which has an outdoor gas heater for those chillier nights. Leading on from the kitchen is the open plan dining room and TV area. There is a lovely fireplace in the sitting area which is great for cosy family evenings. A further bright living room has wonderful views of the grounds and the Cevennes beyond, and is well stocked with plenty of books. The corridor which follows on from the dining area leads to two of the bedrooms, a separate WC, a separate shower wet-room and the ladder staircase to the upstairs 'den' twin bedroom (with shower and sink). The ladder is gated and the room would be ideal for old children or teenagers. There is a second double bedroom, twin-bedded room and bathroom with shower and separate WC on the other side of the house.

Parent Point: One bedroom can only be entered by ladder style staircase (gated) and is therefore only suitable for older children or teenagers.

Outside

Within view of the dining terrace - on the gated driveway - there is a sandpit, table tennis, boules, little bikes and a sit-on tractor; a good variety of balls and garden games are kept in the pool house. The pool house also comes complete with a microwave and plastic cups. The lovely pool is fenced and alarmed and the gate is padlocked. One end of the pool has fabulous views over the Cevennes and down over the rockery into the garden below. The garden is lovingly cared for featuring rockeries, wooded areas to play hide and seek in, orchards, hammocks, secluded dining areas and places to sit everywhere. This is a truly peaceful garden with no immediate neighbours.

Parent Point: Part of the attraction of this property is its secluded hillside location which give it the wonderful views and large gardens. As a result however, enhanced levels of supervision are required with younger children in certain areas of the garden - for example around the rockery and the decking terrace which has a sharp drop on one side and could be climbed easily. The kitchen dining terrace next to the house is enclosed and safe for smaller children; only older children should be left unsupervised away from the house.

And Beyond

La Colline is set in a small village spread over a large area – creating more of a hamlet feel. A short drive will bring you to the local town where you'll find lots of life, shops, bars, and restaurants. Children will love the local steam trains which take you to a local park which is lovely for small ones to run around in. There is a playground in nearby Anduze with all the usual slides and swings along with a duck pond – (which is right next to the steam train station).

St Jean du Gard boasts an aquarium and is a great place for a picnic next to the river. You can also rent a donkey for the afternoon for a walk along the Robert Louis Stevenson Trail. Horse riding can be found just a few minutes the other side of Anduze for rides into the mountains. There is lots of kayaking in the area too and Anduze has its own indoor and outdoor tennis courts - you will never be short of things to do!
